Gokoku Shinto shrine at Lake Kawaguchi

The Shinto shrine for the war dead memorial service. It is the starting point of the hydrangea hiking course. There are a restroom and the observation deck and is a little-known spot for viewing Lake Kawaguchi. In the precincts of the shrine there is the stone tablet of literary scholar Sazanami Iwaya who was also active in from Meiji to Showa era. It says “clear autumn sky and clear Fuji image on surface of water”

an enshrined deity is assumed to be 158 soul that I sacrificed themselves for a country .
in May, 1906, loyal soul monument has build for the memorial service of seven people from Funatsu vilalge killed in action in the war between Japan and Russia. It was brush writing done by Marshal Iwao Oyama. Furthermore, a main shrine was built on September 1949 and victims killed in the China Incident and the World War II were enshrined together.

Getting there from Kawaguchiko Station, walk toward lakeshore till you meet National highway No.137 (about 3-minnte-walk) then make a left turn and right turn immediately. Proceed 3 minutes and when you come to the crossroads make left turn. After 5 minute walk up on the slope for approximately five minutes. The shrine is on the right hand.
