Mushroom Harvest

Do you like mushroom? I really like mushroom! That’s why I was very excited to harvest some mushroom by myself. The soft and plump texture when you bite it, and also it is very rich in vitamins and minerals! This time we will go to pick some mushrooms at Oyama no Taishō (^v^)

The mushroom type at Oyama no Taishō is shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes). The mushroom grow all year in the cultivating house so you can come anytime to harvest it. Other things to harvest can be seen in their website over here.

Spring : Bamboo shoot (end of April ~ beginning of May)
Summer : Blueberry (end of July ~ beginning of August)
Autumn : Orange (end of October ~ December)

Now let’s go to the shiitake cultivating place! We will be given little wooden basket to put in the mushrooms. There are so many logs form a rows and there it is, little mushrooms popped from the logs! I took some mushrooms, the big ripe one, and left the cute small mushrooms to grow and ripe. After I felt it is enough, we go back down to the restaurant to weigh the mushrooms I took. The mushrooms price is 250 JPY per 100 gram. You can also cook and eat the mushrooms you picked at the restaurant!

Oyama no Taishō Restaurant

Oyama no Taishō Restaurant was very pretty and relaxing. The light brown color from the furniture and light, the greens surround the restaurant and will ease your eyes when look at the window, and the cute mushroom plush toys here and there.

After making kusaki-zome and picked some fresh mushrooms, I decided to taste the menu here. I want to bring back my mushrooms so I didn’t cook it over there and ordered another dish. Well, I ordered fried shiitake though so its kind of same thing (❛ᴗ❛) Look at the menu, too. It was full with super cute hand drawing!

Please click here to see the restaurant menu (available in Japanese language only).

I am amazed when my order came. The shiitake was so big! I am full from just eating mushrooms, hahaha. The restaurant also have this special sauce for you to dip your shiitake fry. It is specially made by the shop owner, the “special sauce”. It was a perfect combination with fried shiitake. To complete the meal, they treat me a warm tasty mushroom soup too ♥

For the drink I ordered Aka-shiso juice. Akashiso means red shiso (Perilla frutescens var. crispa). The other juices are ume (plum) juice and orange juice. All these juices are seasonal juice and hand-made! It was my first time drinking shiso juice and it was very fresh and the taste is a mixture of sweet and sour.
