Enjoy the best Kinme (Beryx splendens) in Japan at Shimoda Port Island.

All the restaurants around the city not only offering cooked fish or sashimi (raw fish), but also many other varieties such as shabu-shabu, ramen, katsudon, dumpling and much more Kinme cuisine for you to taste.

From spring until summer Kinme fish will be in their spawning period and rich in fat, thus making it the most delicious in this season. To celebrate it, we welcome you to “Shimoda Kinme Festival”. Various events are held during the event period.

Along with this event, there is also “Shimoda Ajisai Festival” for you to enjoy the blooming Hydrangea flower. Please enjoy them together.

You can also get lottery ticket during the festival. Every 1,000 JPY purchase for meal or souvenir at participating shop, you will get 1 ticket.
You can also get 1 ticket by check in at participating hotels in Shimoda.

Every Sunday in June, at Kaikoku Shimoda Minato building 1F, you can you can eat Kinme-nigiri (a kind of sushi) or kinme wrapped in funori with ara fish soup for 100 JPY only!

Explore the city with local guides. You will do field trip to kinme fish market, sampling kinme cuisine, and many more with local guide who will explain thoroughly.
