This is a travel review of Shimoda Port and downtown.

Shimoda Port

Though it was chilIy last night change completely, it’s a clear fine morning today.

As walking in the street at Shimoda Port early in the morinig some local people began to appear here and there, seemingly, for preparation of the festival.

It’s obvious because they wear special clothes such as the formal Japanese wear, kimono, military uniform of the day that Kurofune Ship visited a shore.

At an embarkation place we can see a patrol boat of the Coast Guard and Kurofune at anchor right in our eyes.

Fortunately, I met a party in the clothes of a feudal lord and the samurai, and allowed me to take their photograph on the background of Kurofune.

We had time until till 10:00 a.m. the opening of a memory ceremony we decided to take a walk through downtown of Shimoda.

Starting from Shimoda Port , to Shimoda Port Bridge, Shimoda town, Perry Road, and went round historical Sawamura House, Ryosen-ji Temple, Kesubousho Ato, Monuments of the Perry’s landing.

Approximately 80% of the area of Shimoda City is the forest and the wilderness, the rest 20% is city area. The impression of the cityscape is compactly formed around Inoogawa River.

Among Perry Road, mall along Inoogawa River and Rout 135 which forms approximately 500 meters square district makes the cityscape such as chessboard.

It is a perfect place to take a walk as much as it’s such a compact area.

Therefore, even those who visited this town for the first time can enjoy sightseeing without losing the way.
